Przegląd Odlewnictwa 3-4/2019

The first quarter of the new year of 2019 ended. However, the forecasts related to the weakening of the global economy did not cease. Effects of this events are already beginning to affect some branches of the industry, which also reflects on the foundries. So far we do not record any major threats, anything can happen, the more so that the still existing payment bottlenecks destabilize the economy, which increase the risks very much. At the same time, the date of acceptance of the long-term EU budgt perspectives, that were to be adapted during this cadency, shifts to 2021-2027. It raises more unknowns, which will be strongly influenced by the newly elected European Parliament, the composition of which is not easy to predict.

The deadline for assessing the implementation of EU arrangements, according to which Poland is expected to achieve a 20% share of energy from renewable sources in 2020, is also approaching. This may not work, since the investments in „wind” Energy have been reduced , which has been noted by foundries which produce cast parts for this technology.

Still a lot is being  said about modernzation of the economy and at the same time a limitation in mathematics education and even withdrawal from the matura exams is being proposed.

Who will then create the modern technology ?

Against this background, the hope resides within information that in January 2019 the President of the Republic of Poland signed the law on Foundation of the Platform for the Future Industry, which is supposed to intgrate all efforts towards the Industry 4.0.

The next information concerns the summary of IX Lider Competition, in which 51 scientists at the age of 35 or lower have been awarded, amongst the winners were 28 projects in the technical field.

This information are very optimistic, lets hope that they will not remain in the project zone due to prosaic reasons, such as lack of interest from the industry, lack of founds for the prototyping stages and lack of human resources. This will happen inevitabely if we allow mathematics to be eliminated from the school programs and , from the higher education, the laboratory classes, apprenticeships in the industry as well as lecturers experienced in cooperation with the industry, assuming that the knowledge of English and working with the internet is enough.
